Workplace Communication Readiness Certificate™
Instructor Implementation Guide
This certificate verifies that students can communicate effectively in real workplace situations — demonstrating clear thinking, sound judgment, persuasive ability, and professional credibility. It is designed to integrate directly into your existing course with no additional workload or course redesign.
How It Works
Students complete three communication performances during the course. Each performance is based on assignments you already teach. All performances are evaluated using a single, consistent rubric. Students earn the certificate only if they meet the professional standard across all performances.
The Three Required Performances
1 · Executive Communication Task
Write a one-page executive brief that presents a clear recommendation based on a realistic business scenario. Aligns with Chapters 4–6 (audience, planning, writing).
2 · Message Adaptation & Judgment Task
Adapt one message for multiple audiences and justify communication choices. Aligns with Chapters 6–10 (message types and tone).
3 · Persuasive Communication Task
Develop a message that moves a resistant audience toward a clear outcome. Aligns with Chapter 10 and Chapter 12 (persuasion and presentations).
Evaluation Criteria — Used for All Three Performances
| Criteria | Meets Standard | Nearly There | Not Yet |
| Clarity & Focus | Clear and easy to follow | Some issues | Hard to understand |
| Audience Awareness | Fully appropriate | Minor mismatches | Poor alignment |
| Structure & Logic | Well organized | Some gaps | Disorganized |
| Professional Credibility | Confident and trustworthy | Some issues | Undermines trust |
Certification Standard
Students earn the certificate only if they meet the standard on all four criteria across all three performances. A reasonable manager would trust this student to handle real workplace communication without supervision.
Implementation Tips
Use existing assignments — no need to create new ones. Designate three points in the course as certification performances. Evaluate final submissions only to reduce grading time. Apply the same rubric each time for consistency and speed.
